NeerSetu officer brief - pre-visarjan testing priorities
MPPCB monitoring 2023–2025 · not live · for officer and technical review.
1. Purpose
- Prioritise fresh testing and inspection before Durga visarjan (20 Oct 2026). Scope: 2023–2025 · Ganesh + Durga · all phases.
2. Observed historical evidence
- Prempura ghat (rank 7): moderate historical concern; priority re-test.
- DO 3.9 mg/l — 2024 Ganesh, during immersion.[1]
- BOD 6.8 mg/l — 2024 Ganesh, during immersion.[2]
- pH 8.55 — 2024 Ganesh, during immersion.[3]
- DO 4.9 mg/l — 2025 Durga, during immersion.[4]
- DO < 5 in 3/18 readings; BOD > 3 in 9/15; pH outside 6.5–8.5 in 2/17.
- Recurring: 5/6 sampled festival windows; 4 of 14 outside readings were pre-immersion.
3. What remains unknown
- Prempura ghat: 4 DO/BOD/pH entries not sampled (2023 Durga).
- Historical (2023–2025) only — current water quality unknown; units assumed.
- Coliform not measured, so Class B compliance cannot be stated; 2026 authorisation unverified.
- Phase differences alone do not establish the effect of immersion.
4. Proposed actions for officer / technical review
- Prempura ghat: fresh DO, BOD and pH samples before 20 Oct, during immersion and one week after.
- Inspect for cleaning needs; refer aeration or treatment decisions to the technical team.
