NeerSetu officer brief - pre-visarjan testing priorities
MPPCB monitoring 2023–2025 · not live · for officer and technical review.
1. Purpose
- Prioritise fresh testing and inspection before Durga visarjan (20 Oct 2026). Scope: 2023–2025 · Ganesh + Durga · all phases.
2. Observed historical evidence
- Rani Kamlapati ghat / Kamla Park kund (rank 4): moderate historical concern; urgent re-test.
- DO 2.4 mg/l — 2025 Durga, during immersion.[1]
- BOD 9.2 mg/l — 2023 Ganesh, one week after.[2]
- DO < 5 in 6/18 readings; BOD > 3 in 18/18; pH outside 6.5–8.5 in 0/18.
- Recurring: 6/6 sampled festival windows; 8 of 24 outside readings were pre-immersion.
3. What remains unknown
- Rani Kamlapati ghat / Kamla Park kund: Ganesh tables print “Rani Kamlapati, Kamla Park, Murti Visarjan Kund, Bhopal”, Durga tables print “Rani Kamlapati Visarjan Ghat (Lower Lake), Bhopal” — possibly two places.
- Historical (2023–2025) only — current water quality unknown; units assumed.
- Coliform not measured, so Class B compliance cannot be stated; 2026 authorisation unverified.
- Phase differences alone do not establish the effect of immersion.
4. Proposed actions for officer / technical review
- Rani Kamlapati ghat / Kamla Park kund: fresh DO, BOD and pH samples before 20 Oct, during immersion and one week after.
- Rani Kamlapati ghat / Kamla Park kund: confirm the physical site before dispatch.
- Inspect for cleaning needs; refer aeration or treatment decisions to the technical team.
